Expert Tips for Storing Cut Apples to Keep Them Fresh and Crisp

Apples are a great snack food, packed with essential nutrients like fiber and vitamin C. However, it can be frustrating to cut up an apple only to have it turn brown and unappetizing before you get a chance to eat it. Luckily, there are several methods for storing cut apples that will keep them fresh and delicious.

Method 1: Lemon Juice

Step 1:

After cutting your apple into slices or chunks, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the fruit.

Step 2:

Toss the pieces gently to ensure that they are all coated in the lemon juice.

Step 3:

Store the covered apples in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in plastic wrap.

Lemon juice contains antioxidants which help prevent browning of fruits when exposed to air.

Method 2: Salt Water Bath

Step 1:

Add one teaspoon of salt per cup of water in a bowl

Step 2:

Dip apple slices directly into saltwater solution for five minutes

Note: Don’t leave your apple slices soaking for too long as this could make them salty.

You don’t need any more than about fifteen minutes total – max – if not much less than that.

The point is just quickly soak them so they’ll last longer without getting brown spots!

Saltwater bath method helps keep enzyme activity at bay by reducing browning caused by oxidation.

TIP:If you find these methods too tedious, investing in an Apple Slicer and Peeler may help save time and efforts while preparing Apples.
